Filling Space

"So...what were you doing in the x amount of time between jobs?"  It's a question that can be filled with many answers.  I was sick, I moved, I had a baby, I took the time off.  Thanks to severance I actually did take the whole summer off, but now, I'm looking and what have I done with the months gone by?   I've interviewed, but haven't found the right fit....I've taken classes at the community college to develop my computer skills, and improve my employability....I leave my self open to anything the boy's school might need, and now, after tomorrow night- I can add bell ringer.  Next week, church secretary.  Are they new adventures?  Bell ringing, I've done with Tim, and the boys.  Every year we pull an hour or two for Tim's work, I've never been alone, never in front door one at Walmart.  I will probably see people I know, can you network at the kettle?  I have never been a church secretary.  It's really not full blown, I don't have to do much beyond folding bulletins, and answering phones, and it's only one day - and it's new to me.  At my age I should have more life experiences, and I don't.  I don't like to leave my box, but you can't fill my resume time line with "waited in my box for the perfect fit", it's time to seek new adventures.  Even if you're not getting paid for a job in money, consider the other benefits - spiritual, the feeling of self worth, the thanks from those you help out, and of course it's all good to have space filled in on your resume :)

  1. Thanks Kel, for the great insight you have on this subject. I needed to hear this and realize now that I have things to offer that I hadn't thought about before.
